A good and instructive course as a whole. Texts and videos are clear and interest is maintained throughout the course.

Very comprehensive training, clear and the videos were nice to watch and kept the interest well maintained! A couple of the videos also had a joke thrown in which made me laugh out loud, absolutely brilliant! I've been on other EA courses in the past, but this one definitely took the cake and I can't recommend anything else! 🫶🏻

google

Very good content and also well delivered as an online course.

google

Smooth and clear service and expert teaching!

google

Really clear explanation and even I understood a lot of things. And I learned a lot about helping. Thank you

google

I completed an online first aid course. The teaching material was excellent and each topic was covered in a very catchy way. The only downside, as with probably other online courses, was how difficult it was to find time out of my own free time to complete the course. Otherwise it was a very worthwhile and beneficial experience for me. So I would highly recommend!

google

The course was excellent and the video materials were clear and comprehensive. Lots of new information even if you already have some previous experience. Highly recommended. Everything you need and even more related to first aid for children.

google

Easily and quickly completed the occupational safety card

google

A clear and comprehensive basic first aid course (16h, online course). Suitable for Questions and relevant videos. I was able to progress the course according to my own schedule. I recommend, beats face to face training if not better. Thanks to the professional teachers!

google

Captivating.

google

It was a good online course. Nothing to complain about. The only thing my teacher said back in primary school was that you don't fall, you fall or fall down. Water drips. So the dripping was a bit of a problem. 😂

google

The course was really good and a big plus as you can do this at your own pace. The examples and instructions are clear. Thank you😊

google

The content of the course was well executed and it was interesting to follow. What is nice about the online course is that you can complete it at your own pace. Thanks to the Uskalla Auttaa team!

Clear, factual and pleasantly relaxed teaching..

The combined first aid course was the perfect way for me to complete the course. The online material covered the theory comprehensively, and I was able to learn the most important things and practice the exercises smoothly on the next day. The instructor was also good!

google

Good and concise training.

google

Good concise package 👍🏻

google

Useful and varied training. Also included practical exercises.

google

An absolutely fantastic course! The videos were varied, clear and full of good humour, and were much more memorable than a single ea weekend. You can watch the videos at your own pace and repeat as necessary. The intermediate tests and practical exercises helped to structure what was learned. This was really useful, now I dare to help 😉

google

Due to stomach problems, I couldn't join the work team for the local EA training. I had to come up with a plan to still complete the same course at the same time. Thorough and clear presenters in the videos. Tips on what to do if you're alone and the food gets to you, came in handy as I'm on night shift on my own. The final exam is such that you have to concentrate on the videos if you want to pass the test. It doesn't help to "snooze".

google

A convenient way to organise a 16-hour course: first 8 hours of self-paced, remote, independent theoretical study, including text, video lectures and test questions. The second day of face-to-face teaching with exercises. You will definitely learn. Teachers with paramedic background, they have a good perspective.

google

I took an EA online course through them and I can recommend it! The course and content was interesting and very comprehensive!

google

Easy to use, very comprehensive and interestingly constructed.

google

A clear, concise and professionally delivered course.

google

What a good online course. The teaching material was of high quality and interesting. The learning was meaningful and fun.

google

Interestingly presented, things stuck in my mind very well.

google

Thank you for an excellent course. Sufficient theory and clear practical exercises

google

Useful skills for first aid situations. The instructor gave good examples.

The training was good and the trainer was knowledgeable

Good and clear teaching. I took the online course alone, so I didn't get to practice with others, but there were good tips on how to practice without a friend or a dummy.

google

clear and nice course 🙂

google

It was a really good and interesting course as you got to try things out and do things yourself instead of just sitting and listening. Everything was clearly explained!

How our online courses serve organisations

Children's First Aid and Emergencies online course is right for you if:

  • you are a parent, grandparent or work with children.
  • you want to be able to identify what are the different types of emergencies children face.
  • you want to be able to help your child in an emergency using the right procedures.
  • want to learn about the most common illnesses, injuries, accidents and poisonings in children, and how to perform first aid.

Our Children's First Aid and Emergencies online course

Life-threatening situations for children are less common than for parents, but they are the most touching and make us all pause. We understand the sickness, injuries and even death of an older person, but with children we don't want to understand these things, because they are still growing up, playing and playing. In times of need, we all wish that a helper was as close as possible. Many of us may already be familiar with adult first aid from our jobs and first aid courses, but how many of us know what to do when a child is in need of help? When it comes to our own children, we cannot expect others to know how to recognise and provide first aid for our children's emergencies, but we must have the skills ourselves.

The team of Uskalla Auttaa Oy consists of experienced emergency care professionals, but above all, we are parents ourselves. Especially as parents, we want to be able to provide children with all the help available. In Finland, there has not been an online course for children's first aid and emergencies before, and we wanted to change that. The Children's First Aid and Emergencies course is designed for parents and everyone who interacts with children. Its purpose is to provide the skills to act in various immediately life-threatening emergencies. Additionally, we have included first aid procedures for the most common situations involving children's illnesses, injuries, accidents, and poisonings.

Children's First Aid and Emergencies

Children's anatomy and physiology have many similarities, but also differences, compared to adults. In addition, emergency situations are often different from those of adults, which means that in some situations, first aid given to children is different from that given to adults. Babies and young children may put objects or substances that do not belong in their mouths. Children do not have control over their bodies and do not know their limits, which is why they are more likely to hurt themselves. In adults, a harmless amount of bleeding can be life-threatening for a young child. The most common cause of child lifelessness is lack of oxygen, while the most common cause of adult lifelessness is cardiac. Therefore, the ventilation-pressure and practical implementation of infant CPR differs from that of adult CPR. On the other hand, the child is also not always able to express himself or herself. For example, a fairly common nocturnal viral laryngitis attack may look quite frightening, with a strong hacking and barking cough. Fortunately, in reality, this is rarely a real emergency, but more often than not, good first aid at home will put things right.

Children's First Aid and Emergencies online course content and duration

The online course will teach you how to deal with different first aid situations when a child is in distress. All the procedures you learn on the course are in line with the Finnish Current Care Guidelines. The course takes about four hours to complete, depending on your own pace of study. The course progresses in modules and includes excellent and entertaining instructional videos, texts on key points and various checklists.

Emergency identification - Helsinki's emergency medical system handles fewer than 5% of patients under the age of 16, and high-risk emergency situations involving children account for 5% of emergency calls related to children. Therefore, actual emergencies involving children are very rare. That's why we believe it is extremely important to provide assessment tools for first aid situations to everyone who spends time with children, allowing them to assess the severity of the situation. We have categorized situations requiring first aid into three classes in our courses. The first class includes situations requiring first aid, where follow-up monitoring can be done at home after initial first aid measures. The second class includes situations requiring first aid that necessitate a visit to healthcare for assessment after initial first aid, but transport can be done by personal means. The third and clearly the rarest class includes situations requiring first aid where an immediate call to 112 is necessary, and first aid should continue until emergency medical services arrive.

For children and babies, it is critically important that the parent is able to recognise the different emergency situations, initiate the necessary first aid and also tell the emergency care professionals how the child's condition differs from normal in ambiguous situations. We teach all of the above in our course.

Unconscious child - Unconscious Child – A child's unconsciousness can be caused by various factors, and in such cases, it is always essential to get the child quickly attended to by emergency medical professionals. Unconsciousness can result from reasons such as head injuries, central nervous system infections, hypoglycemia, and many others, but the most common cause of a child's unconsciousness is febrile seizures. In our online course, you will learn to identify and observe possible causes of a child's unconsciousness, and, of course, you will learn the essential first aid measures to ensure and safeguard the child's basic vital functions until emergency medical assistance arrives.

We want to emphasize that situations requiring the resuscitation of a child are extremely rare. However, the lifelessness of one's own child is every parent's worst fear. It can paralyze some of us completely, especially if we haven't been taught what to do in such a situation. Unlike adult CPR, pediatric resuscitation always begins with five breaths or ventilations. If the child doesn't start breathing, then the head position and possible airway obstruction are checked. If the airways are open and the child still isn't breathing, a resuscitation approach different from that used for adults is initiated. You can learn a clear action plan for pediatric resuscitation in our course.

Choking and foreign body in the airways - Where can you find a parent whose child has never put something in their mouth that doesn't belong there? A small child learns about its environment through its mouth, so it is understandable that little ones will put anything in their mouths if the watchful parent's eye is not on them.

A small foreign body, such as food, a toy, a coin, or even a stone, can potentially block a child's windpipe and prevent oxygen from reaching the body. When a foreign body enters a child's airway, the child naturally defends against the foreign body by coughing and gagging. If the child can make noise when a foreign body enters the airway, the passage for oxygen is likely at least partially open.

Choking is one of the biggest concerns for parents when it comes to their children. Fortunately, we can reassure all parents because choking deaths in children are extremely rare. In the Children's First Aid and Emergencies online course, we learn to recognize signs of choking in children of different ages, and most importantly, we learn various proven methods to clear an airway obstruction.

Typical childhood illnesses, injuries, accidents and poisonings - Not all first aid for children is necessarily an emergency. As a parent of children, you have faced or will certainly face situations that are completely new to you and you may not know how to act. Whether it is an emergency or not, we will teach you typical situations so that you understand what is going on and how to react in such situations.

Anatomy and physiology of the baby and child - The anatomy of the child has many similarities with the adult anatomy, but also many unique differences. These differences also mean that in certain situations the child will deteriorate more quickly than the adult. Teaching and understanding these differences will bring peace of mind and help to remember what is most relevant in each situation where a child is the subject of first aid interventions. A small child has a narrow upper airway due to a large tongue and a lung volume of only 6-8 ml per kilogram of body weight. The blood volume of the child is small and therefore the amount of circulating oxygen is also small. In children, a loss of circulating blood volume or problems with oxygenation will very quickly cause visible problems with basic body functions due to the low oxygen reserve.

The final exam of the Children's First Aid and Emergencies online course

After completing all the modules of the course and answering the test questions during the course, you can proceed to the final exam. The final exam will test what you have learned and is designed to be challenging enough so that not only we, but also you, can be sure that you have covered the most critical aspects of the course in sufficient depth to deal with a variety of first aid situations. The final exam includes a variety of questions, of which you must get at least 90% correct to receive a first aid certificate. However, you should not stress about the final exam. You can retake the final exam as many times as you need, free of charge. This allows you to revisit and review areas where you may still need improvement.
