Resuscitating a child

Child resuscitation (1-16 years)

  1. If the child is unresponsive and does not react to stimuli or waking attempts, call 112!
  2. Open the airway and assess the presence of breathing max. 10 seconds.
  3. If the child is not breathing normally, start CPR by giving five (5) rescue breaths.
  4. If the child does not respond, continue CPR by alternating fifteen (15) compressions and two (2) rescue breaths.
  • Correct pressure point is at the lower part of the sternum
  • Compressions are applied with two thumbs / one hand (primary) / two hands
  • Compression depth during resuscitation 5cm
  • Allow the chest to recover between compressions
  • Compression rate 100-120 times per minute
